Frequently Asked Questions

What is Somatic Education?

Somatic therapeutics focuses on many different practices that aid in connecting the body and mind to promote healing, relief and regulation.

What is Polyvagal theory?

Polyvagal Theory explains how the autonomic nervous system perceives safety and threat, shaping our emotional and physiological responses.

Foundational concepts within PVI are:

  • Neuroception: The nervous system's unconscious process of evaluating risk and safety in the environment.

  • Hierarchy: A three-tiered system of survival and connection responses within the autonomic nervous system

  • Co-regulation: The biological need to feel calmed and grounded through interaction with safe people

PVI helps explain perceptions of threat not as a choice, but as an automatic physiological state of dysregulation. Working with the nervous system involves using somatic tools: like breathwork, expressing safe social cues, and grounding exercises; to signal safety to the body and return to a balanced homeostatic state of harmony

Who can benefit from this?

Everyone with a nervous system! It is wonderful for parents, individuals who live busy lives, healthcare workers, Individuals recovering from addiction and trauma. Somatic bottom-up directed sessions work synergistically with those working to stabilize behavioral health conditions(who are currently within a specialized mental health outpatient program or working with a mental health provider).

Everyone can greatly benefit from integrative somatic approaches and nervous system education within their daily lives.
